The IT Technologist role is to support and maintain Centennial College's computer systems and provide Information Technology (IT) advice, guidance, customer service and support to faculty, staff and students. Reporting to the Manager, IT Technical Services, the incumbent installs hardware and software, troubleshoots hardware/software/network problems and repairs, maintains, and upgrades desktops, laptops and peripheral devices with the ultimate goal of ensuring optimal desktop/laptop performance. The incumbent serves as Tier 2 technical support for equipment issues and escalation. Hardware, software and network problems throughout the college not resolved by the IT Technician, or the Helpdesk (Tier 1) are escalated to the Technologist for further investigation and/or direction. The IT Technologist updates the college asset tracking system and maintains an inventory of spare computer parts. The incumbent works closely with the Network Specialist team (Tier 3) to ensure network connectivity for all computer systems and peripheral devices. The incumbent functions as a coordinator for IT issues involving all equipment and/or space related moves within the campus and includes appropriate areas when required (ie. Telecom, Network Support, 3rd Party Contract Vendors, Facilities, other IT staff).
The IT Technologist serves as an on-site point of contact for a variety of IT related issues. The incumbent works closely and is aware of the work priorities of the front line IT Technicians, Media Technicians, part time Lab Monitors and Co-Op Students. The IT Technologist escalates issues to Tier 3 support and the Manager where required. The Campus Technologist oversees the overall performance of the campus' computer environment and monitors network infrastructure in the absence of onsite IT Infrastructure staff.
Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for the IT coordination of special projects/setups; for example all printer projects, all campus move projects, the bi-annual Financial Aid Loan Disbursement setup as well as administrator backup for certain IT software tools (ie workorder management system).
